BLACK BRUTALISM is a design investigation aimed
on documenting, detailing, and transforming the
Americas’ relationship with Black people. For the
entirety of the Western World’s existence, space
has been a tool use to subjugate Black bodies to
oppressive modes of existence. The most obvious
examples of space used as tools of oppression in the
Americas are Plantations, Prisons, and Projects.
BLACK BRUTALISM as a concept aims to
acknowledge the ways various spaces have be used
to brutalize Black people, but also celebrate the
accomplishments, feats, and achievements Black
people have been able to attain despite oppressive
American systems.
